- Ambroxol Hydrochloride, the active metabolite of Bromhexine, exhibits a greater bronchosecretolytic effect than Bromhexine. It improves sputum rheology by hydrating mechanisms, leading to the liquefaction of mucus in the respiratory tract lumen, facilitating expectoration and reducing dyspnea.
- It stimulates the production of phospholipids of surfactant by alveolar cells, lowering superficial tension in the alveoli and reducing bronchial hyperactivity.
- Kofmelt also has anti-inflammatory properties by inhibiting the production of cellular cytokines and arachidonic acid metabolites, thereby improving airway patency in patients with COPD.

- 2-5 years old: 2.5 ml (1/2 teaspoonful), 2-3 times a day

- 10 years old and adults: 10 ml (2 teaspoonfuls), 3 times a day
